This is what Laurence the Magnificent would tell
the young people of Florence. Do you think it is a reasonable way to be? Is it
really an opportunity not to be lost? Is there something in your
life you are sorry ran away from you quickly never to come back
again? Have you lost an opportunity, which has never presented
itself again? How many opportunities were lost?!
What we should be concerned about is not which opportunities we miss but which we are able to take advantage of. Regret, we know, is useful only when it helps us learn a lesson, increase our knowledge on things not to repeat and could be a milestone on future activities of life. Let's not through away anything and let's learn from our mistakes and bad experiences. These are the things to learn from because you remember them.
Let's give everyone a second chance to help fellowmen from making mistakes, let's use tolerance and most of all intelligence.
So if I help someone solve his
problems, probably he will not have them again and actually could help me solve
someone also too. Although we must remember never to expect anything in
return for what we do. Then why do I consider diversity as an opportunity to
catch and what is its relationship with intelligence? What is intelligence??If you have an answer compare it with mine.
Eachone of us is intelligent if he's able to perceive external stimuli, understand and react to them (without ever forgetting the common goal: everyone's well being). Our behavior must then be aimed at reaching several objectives. Aside from anyone's reaction one fact is clear:
Usually this turns us
enthusiastic, we feel more alive and with more willingness to let others know
and appreciate us. It must have happened to you to "to have to deal" with
someone new or someone very important or to be in a new place or environment.
How did your feel? Did you get that feeling of wanting people to get to
know you and share with them your feelings? Did you try to understand them,
what they feel, how they live and what they prefer? Also what their hobbies are,
what they are afraid of, what they hope to achieve and, why not, their political
ideas and most of all what do they expect from you. We must open to others
we must listen to them and try to know them, compare ideas. We are curious but
also a bit vane in our confrontation with them.
Now we can understand why the
difference among people must be considered an extraordinary growth opportunity!
People and cultures, places or environments different from ours represent the "stimuli"
without which we could not demonstrate our intellectual abilities and thus our
intelligence. Rather than enduring the
differences among people (and be afraid of them) we should appreciate them
because it is a way of comparison and growth.
